Allan’s 1000th Salmon

I just thought it worthy of mention that the 9lb sea liced salmon I caught in the Little falls pool at Cornhill on Tuesday 1st June was the 1,000th salmon that I have caught.

It was a lovely take and he fought very strongly in the confines of the Little falls pool. It would have been enjoyable and memorable to catch it anywhere but it was really
nice to get it in one of my favourite little pools, one that has been very kind to me over the years, a pool that I have had such wonderful fun in.

I can clearly remember my first ever salmon all those years ago with my father. And due to accurately keeping my own game books, over the years I can remember the bulk of my catch, somtimes with the prompting of a date or one of the photographs in the book. I would urge anyone who does not already keep a game book to do so, it really does add another dimension to your over all enjoyment of salmon fishing. The very fact that if you keep a tally the tally will eventually mount up, to me that is a very personal thing. I see salmon fishing as one of the last truly wild sports we can indulge in. We pit our wits and compete against the salmon and not each other. It has swam out across the north Atlantic and back again to its home river or even home pool, and to lure him to your fly is the ultimate challenge and the supreme reward.
